Many pundits have written the same statement: “Manufacturing jobs aren’t coming back.” These opinion pieces inevitably pit manufacturing against technology in some imagined fight for America’s economic future. What they misunderstand is that, increasingly, technology is manufacturing — and together, they will drive growth, job creation and greater prosperity for working families.
Manufacturing, like all industries, is constantly changing. Our factories do not always look like they once did, and many are producing things that existed only in the imagination a few years ago. From self-driving cars and 3-D printing to lifesaving pharmaceuticals and medical technologies, the future is being made here in America — by engineers, technicians, product designers and millions of other employees.
